Family Kitchen Renovation

Walnut Wonder

Lacking in charm and space our clients desperately wanted a functional kitchen that would offer both seating for large gatherings, and, a sense of connection to the rest of their home.

Consolidating Space

The existing kitchen was bogged down by a dropped ceiling and cornered off by multiple walls leaving it tucked away and tiny. Our clients yearned for an open concept, modern kitchen that would be the focal point of the home as you as you walked in the front door. To bring their dream kitchen to life, we integrated the otherwise unused, separate dining space to almost double the square footage of the kitchen  from 245 sq.ft. to 438 sq.ft. by removing the existing wall between the spaces.

Seamless Connections

To enhance the open feel they desired, we also removed the wall in the existing foyer and used glass railings to offer immediate views of the kitchen. In addition, we squared off the old curved staircase to create a more spacious landing area.  By carrying the new flooring up the stairs and using the same glass panels to support new mahogany railings, we maximized flow in a space that now connected the entry way, living room, and kitchen. Together with new vaulted ceilings, a space that once felt cramped and closed off now felt spacious and airy.

Show Stopping Functionality

In the kitchen, rich walnut was hand picked to compliment the homes unique, navy blue 3D backsplash tile, and accented with bold black hardware. Filled with custom cabinetry pull outs like space racks and knife blocks, their new kitchen also featured double wall ovens, a built-in wine fridge, and  dual sinks. Best of all, their giant island and peninsula now offered them the luxury of plenty of storage and working space to utilize when entertaining friends and family.

A New Family Favourite

Walnut Wonder was a finalist at both the 2021 National Awards of Housing Excellence and the 2020 BILD Calgary Region Awards. Our clients were thrilled with the outcome, and the public has been too! It’s one of our most referenced projects among prospective clients, and it’s clear to see why. Open concept living, highly functional custom cabinetry, and rich finishes throughout make this kitchen a family pleasing showstopper.
