Glowing Countryside Transformation

Having grown up in the countryside our clients loved acreage living but felt like their house completely lacked the charm and sophistication that they desired. With a front deck that was falling apart and nothing to catch your eye as you drove by, we set out to make this property shine in more ways than one!

Modern Lines

The existing bull nose rooflines and rounded garage doors were an eye sore for our clients. Feeling that it dated the look of the house, they were ecstatic to learn we could modernize both. Existing columns at the homes entrance were cladded with new high contrast stone and enhanced with tapered Batu hardwood. This brought drama and emphasis to the new front Veranda where 10mm tempered glass railings replaced three rail panels which offered further sophistication. With distinguished new corners and peaks and a welcoming entryway, the home now proudly stands out against it’s natural surrounding.

Eye Catching Finishes

Our clients were partial to natural materials and traditional forms having spent most of their life in the countryside, but felt their existing home lacked character and warmth. By introducing a color palette inspired by the Canadian Rockies, the homes new slate gray CanExcel siding provided the perfect backdrop to highlight rich materials and new architectural elements. The same natural stone used on the columns was extended to the side returns, deck skirting, garage detailing and area beneath the great room window to tie everything together. New natural cedar shakes were added in the inset of the front elevation, as well as on the fireplace cantilever and side elevations to offer 360 degrees of visual interest.

Energy Efficiency & Safety

In bringing this home into the 21st century, we also replaced 4 doors and 21 triple-pane hybrid windows to improve energy efficiency. The new black windows stand out sharply against the exterior, offering contrast next to Batu hardwood battens on the front and side elevations. Inside, they were finished onsite with white casing to blend seamlessly in with the existing interior. Lastly, new LED potlights above the front deck and garage doors were complimented by Gemstone lights installed throughout the soffit. Offering a warm glow to the homes exterior, our clients also loved the added benefit of improved safety on a rural property.

A Shining Masterpiece

Now a glowing sensation, the home is quite literally a highlight on an otherwise rural road full of builder-spec homes. ‘Glowing Countryside Transformation’ was a finalist at both the 2021 BILD Calgary Awards and 2022 CHBA National Awards of Housing Excellence.
